Start at eye level

The comfortable rule is simple: put the center of the screen at your seated eye height. Sit where you normally watch, relax, and measure to your eyes. Most adults land between 40 and 42 inches from the floor.

Why mount height matters

Mount too high and your neck tilts up all night, which gets old fast. Mount too low and your knees or a coffee table block the picture. Centering on eye level keeps your gaze neutral and your posture relaxed.

Over a fireplace or mantel

Fireplaces push mounts up, often too high. If you must go above one, tilt the mount down and sit a little farther back. A lower mantle or a dedicated media wall is easier on the neck than a high, fixed mount.
